  6. Generator Details
    1. Two pole air cooled turbogenerators type WY and WX 23.
    2. Generator is an air-cooled, 2-pole machine with cylindrical rotor.
    3. Ventilated in closed circuit using air-to-water heat exchangers located in the foundation in case of WX configuration or in the lower part of the stator frame in case of WY configuration.
    4. WY arrangement adopted when generator is coupled to gas turbine and steam turbine with lateral or axial steam discharge.
    5. WX configuration generally adopted when coupled to steam turbine with vertical discharge from below.
    6. Main features: two pole turbogenerator with cylindrical rotor, rotor directly coupled to the turbine, rotor equipped with damper winding, closed circuit cooling with air-to-water heat exchangers (4 incorporated into the housing for WY or 4 in the foundation for WX), self ventilating air cooling system for stator and rotor, generator shipped completely assembled (WY if weights and dimensions match transportation limitation) or disassembled (WX), static excitation system, stator winding with single bar insulation system, IEC standard reference, class F insulation system for stator and rotor, shaft grounding device and non-drive end bearing insulation to prevent damages in the bearings.
    7. 2-pole 3 phase synchronous generator is air cooled in closed circuit.
    8. Welded housing split horizontally to enable access for maintenance and repair work.
    9. Rotor turns in two radial friction bearings located outside the generator housing and fully separate from the housing.
    10. Axial position of shaft maintained by thrust bearing on turbine shaft.
    11. Non-driving end bearing has double insulation.
    12. Shaft grounded to protect bearings and supply systems from damage due to eddy currents in shaft.
    13. Lube oil and jacking oil supplied by turbine oil systems.
    14. Hot air warmed in machine is cooled by heat exchangers arranged cross-wise in bottom section of generator housing (WY) or in foundation (WX).
  7. Additional Context
    1. There are about 1000 V engines operating worldwide, including both E- and F-class models operating at 50 and 60 Hz.
    2. Two OEMs manufacture V engines: Siemens and Ansaldo Energia.
    3. Engine designations for Siemens machines are SGT 5-4000F (V94.3A, 50 Hz), SGT 5-2000E (V94.2, 50 Hz), SGT6-4000F (V84.3A, 60 Hz), and SGT6-2000E (V84.2, 60 Hz).
    4. For Ansaldo engines, designations are AE94.3A and AE94.2, 50 Hz only.
    5. Roughly 80% of all V machines in service were made by Siemens, the balance by Ansaldo under a Siemens license.
    6. Ansaldo Energia long-standing experience on steam covers design, manufacturing and installation of steam engines; overall unit amount is about 700 worldwide with total capacity of nearly 100 GW.
    7. Today’s Ansaldo Energia steam turbine portfolio developed for application in most power generation technologies: steam power and combined cycle plants, district heating, cogeneration, desalinization and solar power facilities, as well as nuclear plants.
    8. Current production includes: large ratings for reheat applications respecting highest steam parameters for supercritical and ultra-supercritical conditions, compact modules for smaller ratings, single and two-cylinders models for non-reheat thermal cycles, geothermal steam turbines based on impulse design.
    9. Each steam turbine model is a combination of pre-engineered, well-proven modules of different sizes, providing a broad range of power ratings and applications in both 50 and 60 Hz markets.
    10. Modular design reduces both technical development and manufacturing time.
    11. All models are assembled in workshop except large low-pressure sections, which are most conveniently field-installed.
