  3. Machine Parts Description
    1. Unwind Station - Consists of a framework containing a DC motor driving a 76 mm air bellows shaft under load cell feedback using Dover flexo drive card controlled by an SSD 520 4-quadrant regenerative drive system. This allows the unwind to operate either as a brake or as a motor for fine tension control.
    2. Nip Drive - A free standing unit comprising a chromed roll with an epdm covered nip roll used to isolate tension transients between the unwind station and the coating head. This unit establishes the primary drive reference point as it is the most positive drive point.
    3. Rotogravure Printing Head - Three roll rotogravure printing head comprising of easily removable mix tray, pick-up roll, applicator roll and backing roll; all same diameter and DC motor driven operating in full synchronisation with main machine drive. Drive motor and electrics non flameproof and mounted outside coater enclosure.
    4. Blade Coating Head - Blade coating head (or knife over roll station) with single doctor blade mounted above high TIR (+/- 0.005 mm on total run-out) hard chrome finished back-up roller. DC drive motor gearbox operating in synchronisation with the rest of the line, with a percentage of line speed manual speed trim. Coating head features adjustable side dams and back reservoir assembly. Drive motor and electrics not flameproof therefore mounted outside coater enclosure.
    5. Web Guide System - A Fife single roller guidance unit is mounted on a stand at the exit from the dryer to provide web guidance. This unit features ultrasonic edge detection and servo motor to accurately guide the pivoting roller.
    6. Edge Trimming - On the same stand as the web guide system is a pair of Mario Cotto knives and mandrels for in line edge trimming.
    7. Secondary Web Unwind - A secondary unwind is included on this machine along with a large diameter laminating roller described below as this machine was used for polymer film direct lamination to electrode materials.
    8. Product Rewind - The coated film is rewound onto the rewind station mounted core, which features self-closing side shoulders, and driven by a DC drive motor under the control of an integral load cell/lap roll assembly. The aforementioned lay-on roller (laminating roller) presses against the growing circumference of the rewinding reel. The pressure of the lay-on roller can be adjusted using pneumatic cylinders, or the roll can be lifted clear of the reel.
    9. Secondary Rewind Unit - Where a release paper has to be removed from the film following passage through the oven, a paper rewind unit is available, which is generally the same as the other unwind/rewind stands.
    10. DC Drive System and AC Electrics - Included with the machine are 7 DC drive motors and gearbox assemblies, 5 sets of load cells and all related control equipment some of which is mounted within an easy-to-read/operate mimic panel which is situated in front of the machine. Contactors, relays, thyristors and SSD regenerative controllers are mounted within large electrical cabinet which is situated remotely from the machine.
