110 volts - 60 Hz (alternative 50 Hz available for overseas customers)
Manual Version Specifications
Simple foam indentation force deflection (IFD) tester capable of testing samples 28” square and up to 8” thick
Uses a modified 8” stroke variable speed DC drive lead-screw assembly with an adjustable speed range to meet the requirements of ASTM D3574 (that spec allows the test to be done within a range of 0.83 to 3.3 mm/sec)
Precision load sensor and digital display provide the IFD load values
Maximum load capability is 250 lbs
Custom fabricated structure (with the required lower venting grid) is anodized aluminum
Foam contact is made with a provided 8” diameter “indentor foot” on a pivot coupling
Three-position switch is provided, along with a speed controller, to allow the load to be slowly brought down onto the foam
Lead-screw will dynamically brake when releasing the switch at the correct position (which is confirmed by reading a digital position sensor)
Decays in the foam load against the indentation form can then be monitored using a simple stopwatch
Computer Controlled Version Specifications
Computer-controlled version of the tester described above, with minor differences in the fixture design
Utilizes a modified 8” stroke variable speed DC drive lead-screw assembly and high accuracy loading sensor to provide the required speeds and loads for ILD (now IFD) testing
Linear position sensor is also used so that programmed tests can operate automatically, moving to the required positions as required
Consists of the “bench top” test fixture with the power loading device and the sensors attached (as in the manual version) mounted to a portable controls cart that houses the computer, monitor, printer, and all other required electronic controls
Overall dimensions of the bench top test frame are 36” wide x 26” deep, with a height to be determined by the two upright frame columns
Loading device is adjustable (up and down) along these extrusions using simple hex wrenches
Controls system will be housed in the lower custom made cart with casters, and will utilize an industrial style rack mount computer with heavy-duty internal ventilator fans
High-speed data collection boards will also be housed within the computer
All other required electronics, such as the DC motor drive and load cell amplifiers, will be housed in this cart, and are accessible via a hinged rear door
A single control cable will link this cart to the test fixture
Required monitor, keyboard, mouse, and printer will reside on a tray at the top of this cart
Utilizes custom-written Microsoft Visual Basic software to allow easy test setup and manipulation of test variables for each sample, and will save all data automatically to a database
Operators will be able to create and modify new test setups as needed
While time and date information will automatically be added to each test file saved, operators will be able to enter comments and other critical information about each test sample
Will also be able to plot and print actual load deflection curves from samples, as well as generating the required ILD or IFD values per ASTM D3574
Included Items
Operation manual with operator instructions and documentation (wiring, program, etc.) will be provided
Condition And Notes
No on-site support or training is included
