Used until recently to compare different compositional designs and assess processability
Allows production of lengths of finished nonwoven fabric for onward assessment
Gives guidance as to the ultimate entangling performance of a specific fibre
Concepts can be made and tested for physical performance using normal testing equipment used for full-scale production
Reasonable correlation exists between the performance of the pilot hall prepared fabrics and full-scale production lines
Spunlace nonwoven fabrics can be prepared by taking carded webs with pre-selected fibre blends and basis weights, which are then fed into the hydro-entanglement unit
Allows production of a finished spunlace nonwoven fabric that will replicate a full-scale spunlace line
Hydro-entanglement pressure can be varied up to 150 bar to give greater or lesser degrees of hydro-entanglement, creating finished webs of different strength and bulk characteristics
Pilot line has similar capabilities as a full-scale line with a selection of available forming belts onto which the web is hydro-entangled
Belts replicate the types of pattern and aperture designs that can be achieved on a production line, varying from a plain lacing pattern to different aperture designs and degree of openness
