    3. The disc opener is an opening machine used for additional opening and homogenization of natural or synthetic fiber material.
    4. It is the replacement for fearnought or pickers that are still used in blending plants.
    5. The disc opener can be fed directly from a bale opener or other machine.
    6. Due to its simple design and exceptional functional behavior (patented), it represents a very cost effective and thorough fiber opening system compared to the traditionally used machinery.
    7. The disc opener mainly consists of inner cylinder with stationary opening disc and outer cylinder with revolving opening disc.
    8. Fiber enters the machine from underneath directly into the inner cylinder; the exit is placed at the outer cylinder.
  2. Operating Principle
    1. The raw pre-opened fiber material (natural and man made fibers up to a staple length of 220 mm can be processed) is fed by a suction tube or duct into the inner expanded cylinder and it is decelerated and guided through an opening in the stationary opening disc, equipped with two oscillating rows of pins, where it impacts with the high-speed revolving opening disc.
    2. The opening disc runs a speed many times greater than the velocity of the incoming air that carries the fiber in its train.
    3. As the fiber speed corresponds to that of the air and the fiber impacts against the needled opening disc, it is now opened by the action between the stationary and revolving plates.
    4. On leaving the pinned opening zone of the stationary disc, the fiber is transferred by centrifugal force to the outer cylinder, being taken by the suction air current of the exhaust system which is arranged directly at the exit of the chamber of the opener.
    5. From here it is pneumatically transported to the next process.
    6. The degree of fiber opening is adjustable; downtime for cleaning is virtually zero because the stationary plate is equipped with a self-cleaning device.
