Head Assembly
Blade and blade drive system:.035" thick by 3" wide knife-type double beveled blade driven by a 10 hp ac motor and ac digital inverter with blade speed of 300 to 3500 fpm.
Blade tension is automatically maintained by an air-over-oil system that is energized when the machine is turned on and relaxed when the machine is turned off, extending blade life.
Blade tension is adjustable by regulating air pressure to the system and is usually set at 1000 pounds hydraulic pressure.
Safety switches shut down the blade drive in the event of blade breakage, insufficient blade tension or guard doors being open.
Wheels: 30" diameter with a 3"-wide blade surface; cast-iron, precision machined and dynamically balanced as an assembly; shaft-mounted and supported by heavy-duty precision roller bearings.
Wheels are positioned at a 7° angle from vertical to correspond to the angle of the guide bar and blade.
Blade guide: special femco-designed biangular (6°/14°) guide bar machined from alloy steel with replaceable alloy nose inserts on both top and bottom; guide bar and nose inserts are taflon-coated for reduced friction.
Leading edge of the guide bar (5-1/2") is machined at a 6° angle to assist splitting; balance of the guide bar is machined on a 14° angle; both the guide bar and blade are positioned on a 7° angle from horizontal.
Guide bar is equipped with six individual carbide blade pushers; motorized blade advance system is monitored by proximity and fiber-optic switches for automatic advancing of the carbide blade pushers both in the guide bar and at the grinder.
Blade grinders: automated blade grinding device powered by two 3450 rpm tefc motors; grinding stones are borazon, 7" diameter x 3/8" wide; includes automatic grinder retract to protect the blade.
Grinder is equipped with a carbide blade backup adjusted simultaneously with the guide bar blade advance; includes a built-in vacuum system for grinder dust pickup.
Head index system: precise raising and lowering of the cutting head accomplished by two synchronously driven precision ball screws powered by a high torque servo type motor; servo motor control slows to a creep just prior to completion of the preselected index, providing head location accuracy of ±.003".
A brake on the ball screw drive system is employed between indexes to assure positive head location; accordion style covers protect the ball screws and head posts from dirt and dust; automatic lubrication system provides periodic lubrication of the ball screws and head posts.
Automatic lubrication system: automatically lubricates the ball screws and posts with a fine mist of oil at regular intervals; oil mist is contained inside the boot covers.
Blade height to table: equipped with a precision encoder coupled to the head lift ball screw for extremely accurate indexing; touch screen display indicates the height of the blade above the table.
Compression roll with automatic height adjustment: 3-1/2" roller raised and lowered by a motor drive and encoder unit controlled through the plc to automatically adjust the height of the roller for each thickness of cut; amount of compression is determined by the cutting program parameter.
Table Assembly
Table: welded, tubular construction with a 1/2" thick aluminum plate top; top is drilled over its entire work area so that a vacuum can be drawn over the entire table surface; table reciprocates fore and aft on precision round-ways and linear bearing equipped with dust seals.
Table drive: forward and reverse motions provided by a variable-speed gear motor drive connecting to the table through a rack and pinion; gear rack is affixed to the table bottom; touch screen display provides capability of controlling table speed both forward and reverse independently; length of table travel is adjustable and set on the touch screen display.
Vacuum system: vacuum unit mounted to the underside of the table and travels with the table; includes a regenerative vacuum pump capable of up to 40 inches water gauge vacuum @ 250 cfm to hold the product down on the table; silencer included on the exhaust side; easy-to-change inlet filter included.
Controls
Equipped with a touch screen control system designed for user-friendly operation allowing on-location or remote entering of the cutting program through a personal computer.
Operator console allows both manual and automatic mode operation.
Computer system: data entry terminal with illustrated touch screen for program display and entry; industrial control computer to manage machine logic, control the program and initiate motors, limit switches, etc.
Included Features
Take-away conveyor: 10' long unit connected to the blade guide bar consisting of a number of drive belts that take the cut sheet up and off the machine as cuts are made; controlled by a variable-speed motor synchronized with the table drive so belts run at the same speed as the table; recommended when neoprene sponge or high-density rubbers are being cut; allows faster cycling.
Power driven compression roll rotation: motor and drive added to the compression roll; roll circumference speed is automatically synchronized with the table speed and can be set at the same as or up to 10% more than the table speed; can greatly reduce the "fishtail" effect seen at the end of the cut on softer cellular materials.
Air lift: air lift to assist soft or sticky materials over the guide bar built into the guide.
