Description

  1. Overview
    1. 31 inch (790 mm) sheet extrusion line
    2. New custom extrusion line for precision manufacture of sheets and rolls
    3. Configurable for polyester, polystyrene or polypropylene
    4. Specially prepared for high quality packaging materials and sheet production
    5. Line designed in 1976
    6. Exclusive license sold to Eastman Kodak in 1996 for manufacture of optical material for photographic use and BEF for LCD panels
  2. Specifications
    1. Sheet line, die width 31 inches, maximum net sheet width 28 inches (715 mm)
    2. Line designed for use with a modern high speed extruder with direct drive
    3. Extruder(s) to be placed on mezzanine above roll stack to save floor space
    4. Gear pump: Maag Extrex 45/5 GP (Switzerland) with Yaskawa servo motor and drive, Siti (Italy) gear reducer
    5. Cloeren auto die (WI, USA) designed for APET of bottle grade and PETG, automatic sheet die, 31 inch width
    6. Thermo bolts, width 1 inch, coupled in closed loop with thickness AST beta gauge
    7. 11 heating and thermocouple zones for improved control
    8. Die tested on wide line with less than 19 metric tons of co-polyester
    9. Roll stack: 60 mm thick solid steel side frames, tempered in oven and aged more than 2 years to become stress free before final grinding and setting of roll positions
    10. Vibration dampened with triangular box section vacuum filled with epoxy/sand mixture
    11. From vertical melt curtain into roll nip to 45° incline, resulting in longer cooling time on roll number two
    12. Can configure idlers for longer contact time with roll number three if further annealing is required
    13. Chill rolls: chrome polished rolls, 2 of diameter 18 inches, 1 of diameter 12 inches, all of length 35 inches
    14. Individually driven by Yaskawa AC servo motors (Japan) via Girard Dynabox medium, worm wheel gear reducers (France)
    15. Nip opening by wedge micro adjustment
    16. Roll number one and three activated by pneumatic cylinders
    17. Complies with US requirement for opening time and distance between rolls
    18. Edge trim knives: 2 pieces Dienes Werke roller knives (Germany) with auto side shift (pneumatic) and precise depth control, mounted closely after the third chill roll for better edge trim control
    19. Beta gauge from AST, USA, mounted onto the chill roll stack for as short distance as possible from auto-die to gauging to ensure high accuracy and low data age
    20. Interfaced with the auto-die in closed loop
    21. Secondary cooling rack, length 9 feet, Winertia idlers, Componex, WI, USA
    22. Roll diameters are 3 inches, anodize is black
    23. All idlers in the entire line are delivered by Componex
    24. Pull roll stand: 230 mm rolls, blue rubber 80 Shore A, precision ground, pneumatically operated
    25. Festo (Germany) regulators and valves
    26. Yaskawa AC servo motor and drive via Siti worm wheel gear reducer mounted directly on lower roll shaft
    27. Web tension controlled by load cells, readout/controller mounted on the stand
    28. Traverse motor for the line incorporated in the pull roll stand, traversing by chain
    29. Traversing chain and its floor fixtures are part of the delivery
    30. Accumulator: 16 ft tall, self-contained unit, for further cooling and take up of Festo 40 mm DGO linear cylinders
    31. Linear rails Samick, Korea, lubrication free linear bearings from Igus, Germany
    32. Idling rolls 6 inch diameter, Winertia, Componex, USA
    33. Rubber pull rolls, diameter 200 mm, driven by Yaskawa AC servo and worm/wheel gear mounted directly onto the lower roll shaft
  3. Condition
    1. Line is mechanically complete and well adjusted
    2. All pneumatics components inclusive solenoids and sensors will be in place and tested
    3. AST beta gauge delivered in year 2000; upgrade purchased to enable gauge to work in closed loop with the Cloeren, WI, 31 inch auto-die
    4. All Yaskawa motors and Yaskawa drives will be mounted in their respective positions, but not electrically/electronically installed
    5. Original plan for controls where all Siemens, Telemecanique or Schneider Electric components, as in line breakers relays etc.
    6. Main PLC was planned as Siemens S7-300’s with central PC control for operation and storage of recipes
    7. Siemens software (general line and process control)
