Alsthom-Atlantique, Babcock & Wilcox, Power Plants, 7.5 MW to 40 MW, Fuel Oil & Steam Turbine

Description

  1. Overview
    1. Two 7.5 MW fuel oil generators with exhaust gas heat recovery, lube oil purification systems, and fuel oil purification systems.
    2. Units were shut down in 2006.
    3. Each has about 100,000 total operating hours and only 5,000 – 10,000 hours since the last overhaul.
    4. High-reliability system with two completely independent lines and common spares.
    5. Units are mechanically sound; routine maintenance is ongoing as the machines are still on stand-by.
  2. Diesel Motors
    1. Pielstick units with 16 cylinders running at 500 rpm using intermediate marine fuel oil.
    2. Twin turbo-compressors with heat recovery system generate five mt/hr of six bar steam on each machine.
    3. Intercoolers for the compressed fuel and gas mixture.
  3. Generators
    1. 7.5 MW Alsthom-Atlantique units running at 500 rpm and generating 6 kV at 50 Hz.
    2. Total potential is 9.375 MVA at 0.80 power factor.
    3. Exciters are also from Alsthom-Atlantique running at 75 Hz.
  4. Lube Oil Purification System
    1. Includes two Alfa-Laval type MAPX-207-SGT-24 centrifuges with double filtration using traditional filters and an automatic viscometer.
  5. Fuel Oil Purification System
    1. Includes three Alfa-Laval type MAPX-210-TGT-24 centrifuges with traditional filtration.
  6. Additional Equipment
    1. Two air compressors for starting the diesel motors.
    2. Process control system is included.
    3. Some spare parts included.
  7. Documentation
    1. Includes original manuals, specification sheets, and P&IDs for the lube oil, fuel oil, steam, condensate, compressed air (for starting), and cooling water piping circuits.
  8. Site and Logistics
    1. Site access by road and rail is excellent.
    2. Seven kilometers to the local harbor with minimal overhead issues.
    3. Entire process area covers about 40 meters by 50 meters but could easily be rearranged to a smaller footprint.
  9. 33 MW Power Plant
    1. 33 MW power plant with heavy oil fired Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) boiler, associated Electrical Industries (AEI) steam turbine, and General Electric (GE) generator.
    2. Boiler is a B&W type PFI-28/24 producing 168 mt/hr of steam at 61.5 bar and 483°C.
    3. 33 MW, 41.5 MVA air-cooled generator runs at 11.5 kV.
    4. 35 MVA main step-up transformer is 11.5/66 kV and is equipped with a tap changer.
    5. Unit is scheduled to operate until October, 2011; shutdown is due to more strict emissions regulations and not due to any mechanical issues with the equipment.
    6. Equipment is in great condition; the line is running today and will shut down next year; actual maintenance and maintenance records are excellent.
    7. Documentation is readily available; paper copies of P&IDs, process descriptions, equipment lists, and selected ABB control screen print-outs have already been received.
    8. An excellent ABB control system is available for sale with the plants.
    9. High-voltage breakers and switching stations along with some spare parts will also be available.
    10. No environmental concerns such as asbestos or PCBs.
