Black Clawson has over 1400 worldwide refiner installations and a century of experience in designing systems for the pulp and paper industry.
The twin hydradisc refiners are available in four body sizes to accommodate ten disc diameters ranging from 16 to 42 inches.
With horsepower ratings from 75 to 1750, these refiners can handle capacity requirements of 7 to 900 t/d.
Design Features
Self centering, free floating shaft and rotor.
Three bearing options available.
Two-speed disc adjusting motor.
Quick opening hinged door housing the movable power adjusting stator on control end.
No hand location of inlet and discharge port.
Solid stainless steel rotor, stator and main body casting.
45 degree direct angle flow of stock to refining surfaces.
Multiple plate patterns available for specific stock requirements.
Operation Features
Pressure controlled inlet and discharge.
Balanced inlet feed to equalize pressure and stock flow to both sets of refining plates.
Positive pressure change from inlet to discharge.
Power load precisely controlled by two-speed electromechanical adjustment of movable head.
Flexible and computer adaptable controls.
Control Features
High speed backout if the inlet pressure or flow should fail.
High speed backout if the drive motor shuts down.
Secondary setpoint, such as freeness or differential temperature, can be programmed to prevent overload damage.
Backout timer prevents additional backouts when more than one abnormal condition occurs, permitting faster start-up.
Available control types include constant current, constant power (watts) and constant power with secondary setpoint adjustment (freeness, flow meter, differential temperature, couch vacuum, or computer).
Maintenance Features
Simplicity of design.
Minimum replacement parts required.
Hinged, quick opening door for inspection, plate change.
Bearing and coupling guard provides clean and safe operation.
Rotor crane on larger models for quick plate change (two hours or less).
Rotor mounted on permanent hub for easy disassembly/reassembly.
Bearing Options
Black Clawson offers three bearing designs on twin hydradisc refiners:
Sleevoil Design
Black Clawson's most popular bearing used in over 700 hydradisc refiners sold.
Floating resistance is minimal.
Bearing life limited only by lubrication failure.
Easy maintenance – bearing sleeves can be changed in less than 1/2 hour without removing coupling or disassembling refiner.
Anti-Friction Design
Widely used and very successful.
Twin hydradisc has no thrust loading - bearings are identical in size and type.
Grease lubricated.
Split housing.
Anti-Friction Cartridge Type
Cartridge design.
Oil lubricated.
All three have proven performance and are readily available.
Disconnect power supply to main motor, back out sliding disc and open front cover.
Remove the refining disc segments from the sliding disc (in the end cover) and from the exposed side of the rotor.
Slip the crane assembly supplied with the twin hydradisc onto the hinge pin and tighten the set screw.
Bolt the adapter plate of the crane to the rotor using the tapped holes for the disc segment.
Remove the socket head cap screws which hold the rotor on the hub. Install two of these screws in the tapped holes in the rotor, and back the rotor from the hub.
Swing the rotor out on the crane.
All plates can now be removed.
Install new plates.
