Description
Summary
Desalination barge with topside equipment offered for sale
Topside equipment is new and unused
Converts sea water to fresh drinkable water by reverse osmosis
Built to a military-grade standard for the US Army, preserved in standby condition
Overview
The 2 desalination systems onboard are capable of producing a daily maximum of 300,000 gallons (about 1.4 million liters) of filtered, desalinated and drinkable water from seawater.
The plant is 2 identical units, ROWPU 1 and ROWPU 2, each able to produce 150,000 gallons per 24 hours; either unit can be run on its own.
Built to reject 98 percent salinity and to meet World Health Organization guidelines for field water quality.
Product water can be stored on board in 4 tanks holding 15,000 gallons in total.
The plant can deliver water at variable volume and pressure.
The membranes supplied with the unit are still in their plastic and in store.
Around 24 hours are needed to initialize the system once the membranes are installed.
Crew to run it continuously: 1 engineer with electrical knowledge and 1 person to analyze the water quality.
Barge Dimensions
Length: 120 ft (36.6 m)
Beam: 33 ft (10.1 m)
Depth: 10 1/2 ft (3.2 m)
Displacement: 505 tons (513 tonnes)
Operating Envelope
4-point mooring system; sea conditions not exceeding sea state 3.
Minimum water depth 15 ft at low tide.
Stated production figures are based on optimum environmental and operating conditions.
Equipment Included
2 banks reverse osmosis water purification units (2 blocks of 16 tubes, 5 membrane elements per tube)
Onboard chlorination unit
2 Caterpillar 3406 DI engined high-pressure water pumps, 325 hp at 2100 rpm / 250 hp at 1800 rpm; 841 and 709 hours
2 spare Caterpillar 3406 engines (4 engines in total: 2 assembled with pumps and 2 new spares)
High pressure pumps: Roto-Jet, V-belt driven, 350 gpm (1325 L/min) at 805 psi (5550 kPa), 260 bhp at 4380 rpm; electric motors can be fitted in place of the diesel drives
2 Caterpillar 155 kW diesel generators (3306TA and 3306DI), 807 and 814 hours
Held as a standby reverse osmosis system and never put into service; all equipment was preserved and labeled with the date.
Generators and main pump engines are run monthly, without the high pressure pumps and membranes.
Last dry-docked 29 March 2016: scraping and high pressure water blasting, ultrasonic readings taken, 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of antifouling applied, all anodes changed and all underwater valves serviced.
Hull, side paint protection, deck, upper structure and internal spaces all reported in good order.
Gensets have low running hours and have not been overhauled.
A full set of construction drawings, a stability manual and the reverse osmosis plant manuals are available.
Temporary registration; can be registered under any flag.
Inspection
A letter of intent, proof of funds and a 10% refundable escrow deposit are required before inspection, plus an inspection fee of EUR 8,000, refundable if not as offered.
