How It Works
The process begins with the introduction of sugar from both above and below. The uniform application of sugar prevents the sheet from sticking to machinery parts during processing.
The gum material is then fed into the extruder, which flattens it into a thin sheet, serving as the foundation for the chewing gum product. The extruded sheet entering the first rolling station is about 15mm thick.
The two reducing rolls of 45cm in length press the confectioner’s sugar into the surface of the chewing gum sheet and adjust the thickness of the sheet to achieve the desired chewing gum thickness.
The excess confectioner’s sugar is removed between the 2nd and the 3rd reducing stations to give the finished product a better appearance.
Mechanical adjustments on each roller allow operators to achieve the desired thickness for the chewing gum.
Following the rolling and thinning stages, the gum sheet enters a cooling tunnel of 3.4m length to cool and solidify, ensuring its shape and consistency throughout the forming line.
The gum sheet undergoes a third rolling stage to get the desired thickness, followed by a smoothing roller, to refine its texture and appearance, ensuring it meets quality standards where it is flat, fine, and silky.
The final step in the forming line involves cutting the sheet vertically lengthwise into strips by the first cutting station and then horizontally to form individual pieces, and adjusting their dimensions based on product specifications and customer requirements. (Currently set for 2x2.5 piece) The resulting precut sheet is guided over a draw-off belt and separated from the ribbon.
The trim from the sheet is returned to the extruder for reprocessing. The takeoff is done manually, the sheets fall into pallets or trays held in readiness.
Accompanying Machinery for Gum Sticks and Chiclets
Machine 1: The dz arm mixer – used for both gum sticks and chiclets to mix the gum base with the other ingredients. Available dz arm mixers in our warehouse include: werner & pfleiderer dz arm mixer 500l, eurowrap 500 kg dz arm mixer, eurowrap gum mixer 200kg, werner & pfleiderer 1,000l dz arm mixer, baker perkins 1.000l dz arm mixer, werner & pfleiderer dz arm mixer 50 to 80 kg, baker perkins 1.000l mixer.
Machine 2: Cooling table – in order to cool the gum a cooling table is a great efficient and effective way. The table consists of planed and polished steel plate with circulation channels welded on beneath; it is suitable for water cooling.
Machine 3: Wls rolling and scoring line – the wls rolling and scoring line to form the gum as discussed before. Also this line is used for both the strips or sticks, and the coated chewing gum with difference in adjusting thickness and individual piece dimensions.
For Chiclets (Rectangular Coated Gum)
Machine 4: Coating pan – for the chiclets rectangular chewing gums the next step is to coat these individual pieces with shiny crunchy coating either colored or white. Available coating pans include: polimex copper coating pan, 100kg; 80cm coating pans; carugil ctm-200; 100 cm stainless-steel coating pan; 125 cm stainless-steel coating pan.
Machine 5: Packing machine – redington chiclets cartoner machine. In the final step, the square-shaped gum pieces are packed into rectangular cardboard boxes, either containing 2 pieces or 12 pieces each. This process is handled by the two heavy-duty redington machines.
Machine 6: Over-wrapper machine – sollas over wrapper model 17 is designed to wrap the cardboard box of all sizes in a protective and attractive outer layer, usually plastic film.
For Stick Gum
Machine 4: Stick pack machine – il won icw-ii logomat korea is a packaging machine that forms, fills, and seals stick packs (narrow, elongated pouches) containing stick gum pieces. It is able to wrap 4-11 individual pieces at a speed of 900 piece per minute.
Machine 5: Over-wrapper machine – sollas over wrapper model 17 is designed to wrap bundles of stick gum (stick pack) in a protective and attractive outer layer, usually paper or plastic film.
