THE TURBINE-DRIVEN COMPRESSOR SET CONSISTS OF AN AXIAL-FLOW TURBINE AND DRIVEN COMPRESSOR.
TURBINE AND COMPRESSOR ARE IN-LINE ON A BASE FRAME, A STEEL WELDMENT WITH BEAM SECTIONS AND CROSS MEMBERS FORMING A RIGID PLATFORM.
THE TURBINE OUTPUT SHAFT IS ALIGNED WITH THE DRIVEN EQUIPMENT INPUT SHAFT, AND THE SHAFTS ARE CONNECTED WITH A SPLINED INTERCONNECTING DRIVE SHAFT.
AUXILIARY SYSTEMS INCLUDE START, FUEL, AIR, LUBE OIL, ELECTRICAL CONTROL AND SEAL SYSTEMS.

THE C51 GAS COMPRESSOR IS A CENTRIFUGAL-TYPE COMPRESSOR DESIGNED FOR EFFICIENT GAS BOOSTING SERVICE WHEN DRIVEN BY A SOLAR GAS-TURBINE ENGINE. INCLUDED ARE THE COMPRESSOR DESIGN CHARACTERISTICS PARTICULAR TO THIS INSTALLATION.
FLOW RANGES FROM 2000 TO 15 000 CFM (57 TO 425 M3/MIN) ARE AVAILABLE, DEPENDING ON THE SELECTION OF INTERNAL STAGING.
THE COMPRESSOR IS DESIGNED TO OPERATE AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS -20°F (-29°C) AND DISCHARGE GAS TEMPERATURES AS HIGH AS 350°F (177°C) (375°F (191°C) WITH HIGH-TEMPERATURE SEALS).
COMPRESSION IS ACHIEVED IN A CENTRIFUGAL-TYPE COMPRESSOR BY INCREASING THE VELOCITY AND THE STATIC PRESSURE OF THE FLUID GAS AS IT PASSES THROUGH EACH ROTOR/STATOR STAGE.
THE GAS IS DRAWN INTO THE EYE OF THE IMPELLER AND LEAVES AT THE PERIPHERY THROUGH THE IMPELLER BLADES.
ENTERING A STATIONARY DIFFUSER AT HIGH VELOCITY, THE GAS FLOW IS RETARDED, CONVERTING MOST OF THE KINETIC ENERGY INTO ADDITIONAL STATIC PRESSURE. (177°C) (375°F (191°C) WITH HIGH-TEMPERATURE SEALS).
